Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) on Saturday evening condemned the attacks on working journalists during clashes between BNP supporters and law enforcement agencies in different areas of Dhaka.
The BFUJ also sought the intervention of the Home Minister so that the attackers zfd not spare.
In a statement signed by the organization’s Secretary General Dip Azad also demanded exemplary punishment of the perpetrators through bringing them under trial. BFUJ President Omar Faruk also demanded justice for the injured journalists.
At least 10 journalists from different media were injured in the attacks and their cameras damaged and mobile phones also snatched away, it reads.
Of the injured, five journalists were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The BNP-Jamaat men carried out attacks on media personnel when they were capturing the incidents of violence including vandalism, torching and arson into video in places of Dhaka during the grand rally.
Dainik Ittefaq’s multimedia reporter Sheikh Nasir came under attack by the BNP men when he was performing professional duty. Private Ekushey television’s camera was vandalized in the Rajarbagh area and its reporter and cameraperson Towhidur Rahman and Arifur Rahman were assaulted at that time.
Moreover, Jamuna television’s vehicle also got damaged at Nightingale intersection, the statement said.
Dainik Bhorer Kagoj’s photojournalist Masud Parvez was harassed by the BNP activists in front of Notre Dame College in Arambagh intersection. His camera was also snatched by Jubo Dal activists when he was taking photos of arson. Somoy TV’s journalist Maruf was also injured in an attack by the BNP men in Nightingale intersection by Nayapaltan.
Dainik Kalbela’s Rafan Jonny was badly injured in the attack by the BNP men in Segunbaghica area. Later other journalists rescued him and sent him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
