A BNP delegation on Thursday held a meeting with US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs S Paul Kapur.
The meeting was held in the morning at the residence of the US Ambassador in Gulshan, said BNP Media Cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
A five-member BNP delegation led by Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan entered the residence at around 11 am and came out at about 11:50am.
Other members of the delegation were Barrister Naushad Zamir, Mahbubur Rahman, Nayeba Yusuf and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Moyeen Khan said the United States has long been a friendly country of Bangladesh and has extended cooperation in various ways in the past.
“With a new government in place, it is natural that they would like to know what is happening in Bangladesh, what our policies are and what our future plans are. We came here today to discuss those issues and also to talk about mutual relations with different countries, especially with the United States,” he said.
Asked whether the discussion included any agreements signed with the United States, the BNP leader said their discussion mainly focused on people-to-people relations between the two countries and the policy directions of the future government.
“You know the world is going through many developments. We discussed the overall global situation, diplomatic relations with the United States, and issues related to foreign and economic ties between the two countries,” he added.
