They accused bus owners of cheating passengers in the pretext of providing better services. The demand was raised at a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club organised by Manobadhikar Jote.
Passengers Welfare Council’s convener Mohammad Mostafa said extra fare is charged in the pretext of ‘sitting service’ where the number of passengers do not exceed the number of seats on buses.
“They only provide ‘sitting services’ on paper but in fact, they are cheating the passengers,” he said. “The buses carry more passengers than their seating capacities. The buses make unnecessary stoppages to get passengers.”
Manobadikar Jote Secretary General Milon Mollik said passengers are suffering because of the indiscipline in the mass transport sector.
“The government should take immediate steps to bring disciple in the sector to end the suffering of the passengers,” he said.
Joint Secretary General of Manobadikar Jote Golam Faruk Mojnu, among others, spoke at the programme.
