The National Consensus Commission (NCC) has amended the fifth clause of the July Charter-2025 to accommodate key demands placed by the July heroes, said the commission’s Vice President Prof. Ali Riaz on Friday.
Speaking to the demonstrators at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Riaz said that the amendment followed discussions with the July heroes and consultations with political parties.
“Through this correction, the legitimate demands of the July heroes have been incorporated into the charter,” he asserted.
Reading out the revised clause, Riaz said that it commits to ensuring justice for victims of enforced disappearances, killings, and torture during the 16-year anti-fascist democratic struggle against the Awami regime, and for those killed during the July–August 2024 uprising.
It pledges state recognition for the martyrs, monthly allowances, medical care, and rehabilitation for the injured July fighters, as well as legal immunity, protection of basic rights, and security for all affected families, he said.
Riaz also said that the Commission would formally present this amended charter to the government for implementation, noting there was no disagreement between the political parties and the Commission on this issue.
Commission members Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr. Md Ayub Mia, and Monir Haider, special assistant to the Chief Adviser on the consensus process, were also present.
The long-debated July Charter is set to be signed on Friday afternoon, a move the interim government hails as a 'turning point in the nation’s history.'
The historic signing ceremony will take place around 4pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
