“Among the total infected policemen, 2,093 have made full recovery as of Monday morning,” said Sohel Rana, additional inspector general (AIG) (media) of Police headquarters.
Most of the recovered policemen have joined their respective duty stations after recovery, he added.
With the constant efforts and directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed, recovery rate of infection cops is satisfactory, he added.
Sources at Police headquarters said 5,529 policemen were infected as of Monday morning. Among those, 1,658 were infected in Dhaka Metropolitan Police alone.
Among the infected policemen, 1,206 have been put in isolation while 5,162 were sent to quarantine.
Altogether, fifteen members of the law enforcement agency died of COVID-19, sources said.
Besides general policemen, high ranked police officials were also getting infected with coronavirus while performing duties.
To cope with the worsening situation, Bangladesh Police recently hired 250-bed Impulse Hospital in the capital for the treatment of coronavirus-infected police members.
The government has allowed the public transport on road, river and rail routes to resume services from Sunday while bus and minibuses started moving on highways from Monday.
Bangladesh has so far reported 49,534 coronavirus cases and 672 deaths.
Bangladesh on Sunday recorded the highest number of deaths- 40 from COVID-19 and 2,545 new infections in the span of 24 hours.
