Angry crowds on Wednesday besieged the Sadar Police Station in Khulna city protesting the release of Sub-Inspector (SI) Sukanta Das, an accused in a case involving July uprising, from police custody.
The protesters also padlocked the main gate of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) demanding resignation of the KMP Commissioner.
They also blocked the main road at around 4:45 pm, halting vehicular movement stretching from Rupsha into the city.
Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Khanjahan Ali Police Station, said Sukanto came to Khulna to appear before the court to testify in a case.

When he reached Shiromoni area in Khulna city, local people beat him up mercilessly and handed him to Sadar Police Station.
Sukanta is an accused in a case filed over carrying out an attack on protesters during July uprising last year.
The case was filed with Sadar Police Station in last December.
