The capital city was stuck up for hours in terrible traffic gridlocks on Tuesday, causing untold sufferings to the dwellers, including school children.
 
After a reality check in different parts of the capital including Asadgate, Khilgaon, Moghbazar, Mohammadpur and Dhanmondi areas the UNB reporter found huge tailbacks in many alleys and main roads especially near schools and colleges.

Wishing anonymity, a senior traffic officer of the Traffic Department, said, “The classes of all pre-primary schools resumed today after nearly two years of closure due to pandemic. As a result, all students from pre-primary to secondary level are going to their classes now. The pressure of private vehicles is also high as the guardians come to schools  to drop or pick up their children, causing tailbacks.”
 
Enamul Haque Himu, a private company officer, said he needed two hours to travel up to 300 feet from Segunbagicha due to traffic gridlock.
 
Moshin Ali, a resident of Moghbazar area, said, her five-year-old daughter Rehema had a bad day today, the first day in school.  

She was excited with the prospect of joining classes physically after two years of Covid closure. But the unusual traffic jam was a bitter experience for her.

Meanwhile, Mostafa Zaman Mantu, a resident of Moghbazar area, said he did not see such a huge number of vehicles on roads in the past two years.

The commuters including the office-goers, school and college students were the worst sufferers on the day as they had to wait for a long time to reach their destinations due to the gridlock.
 
Besides, the road repairing work and the metro rail project work also intensified the woes of the city dwellers.
