Students of Dhaka University lifted their blockade at Shahbagh intersection at 8 pm this evening after nearly five hours of demonstrating under the "Bangla Blockade" to pressure the government into reforming the quota system.
The students announced that they would resume their blockade at 3:30 pm tomorrow.
Protesters from different halls of Dhaka University gathered in front of the central library, paraded the campus, and then marched to Shahbagh intersection to observe the road blockade in the afternoon.
During the demonstration, a group of protesters marched from Shahbagh to the Poribagh intersection near the InterContinental Dhaka, while another group moved towards Bangla Motor intersection, causing significant traffic disruptions.
As part of the pre-announced "Bangla Blockade," students from Dhaka College and other nearby educational institutions took up positions at the busy Science Lab intersection around 2 pm, further disrupting traffic.
Additionally, students from Eden College marched from Nilkhet to Azimpur road. Other groups staged demonstrations on Chankharpul Road and the ramp of Mayor Hanif flyover.
Thousands of students from Dhaka University, Dhaka College, Eden College, and other nearby institutions joined the protest spontaneously, contributing to the large-scale traffic gridlock across major roads.
