The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on carrying explosives, crackers and explosion of firecrackers in the areas of its jurisdiction in the capital ahead the holy Shab-e-Barat to be observed on Friday next.
DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam enforced the restriction under section 28 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance-1976 (Ord. No. III of 1976), for maintaining the sanctity and ensuring peaceful observation of the Shab-e-Barat, said an official release of DMP on Wednesday.

The ban will come into force from 6:00pm Friday (March 18) and remain effective till 6am on Saturday (March 19).
Shab-e-Barat will be observed across the country on the night of March 18. It is observed on the 15th night of the Arabic month of Sha'ban. Muslims offer special prayers, recite the Holy Quran, and take part in other religious rituals on Shab-e-Barat.
