Former MP of Thakurgaon-1 constituency and ex-water resources minister, Ramesh Chandra Sen, has been arrested and sent to jail in a case filed for hurling a crude bomb on students during the student movement on July 16.
Thakurgaon Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Rajib Kumar Roy gave the order after Ramesh was produced before the court on Saturday afternoon.
Ripon alias Babu, a resident of Hajipara in Thakurgaon town, filed the case, naming Ramesh Chandra Sen, District Jubo League General Secretary Samir Dutta, Zilla Parishad Chairman Abdul Majid Apel, and 40 others.
According to the case details, on July 16, during a peaceful demonstration by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the accused allegedly attacked the students and caused a crude bomb explosion, injuring numerous protestors.
Earlier, the former minister was detained by a team of plainclothes police from his residence in Ruhia, Sadar Upazila around 10:30 pm on Friday.
Ramesh Chandra Sen also served in the Awami League as a presidium member, an advisory council member, and most recently, a member of the Central Election Board. He held the position of Minister of Water Resources from 2009 to 2014.
