A fire in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila has destroyed 18 tin-shed houses along with all the belongings inside.
The fire broke out on Thursday around 5:00 pm at the property owned by Qayes Mia of Maona village, of the upazila. No casualties have been reported.
According to Qayes, the 24 tin-shed rooms in Maona Uttarpara village were rented out to local garment workers. Upon hearing news of the fire, he rushed to the scene to find 18 of the rooms completely burned down.
The fire was brought under control with the assistance of the fire service and water supplied by the local Meghna factory’s own management. The rapid response helped contain the blaze quickly. The workers, who were on duty at the factory, lost all their belongings, including beds, televisions, refrigerators, and other household items, in the fire, leaving nothing salvageable.
Mahbub Alam, station officer of Sreepur Fire Service, said two fire service units arrived at the scene following news of the fire and managed to control it within half an hour. He could not immediately determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
