The publication ceremony of debater Bulbul Hasan’s biofiction book titled "Antoheen Bitorkojatra: Ekti Atmojiboner Khoshra" (Endless Journey of Debate: A Draft of an Autobiography) " was held on Saturday at Biswa Sahitya Kendra.
Speaking at the programme, Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University, Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam said that without engaging in debate, survival in today’s world would be impossible.
He emphasised that no power in the world can be confronted without argument.
“If we harness the power of debate, think critically, and conduct research to present our ideas, the world will recognise that our nation is truly progressing in thought and education. This, in turn, will earn us global respect.”
Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam further noted that universities once had a vibrant culture of debate, but this is no longer the case.
Today, he said, the focus has shifted towards the struggle for power and securing positions. Despite the crisis, debate continues to exist, and Bulbul Hasan’s book reflects optimism.
He expressed hope that the book would inspire young people to develop an interest in debate.
"This book is not just an autobiography; it is, in a way, a document of intellectual exploration, serving as an inspiration for new generations of debaters."
Bulbul Hasan is a former president of the Bangladesh Debate Federation and the Dhaka University Debating Society, is currently a London-based broadcast journalist and fiction writer.
In this book, he has transformed his extensive experience in debating into literature.

Renowned economist and writer Dr. Selim Jahan, who was a television debate champion in the 1970s, provided his evaluation of the book.
He remarked that debate is not merely a battle of logic but a means to deepen human thought and expand one’s sense of humanity.
He praised the book for presenting this perspective and noted that it does not follow the conventional rulebook format of debate, making it an engaging read with a sense of humour.
Dr. Abdun Noor Tushar, a former president of the Bangladesh Debate Federation, media personality, and television presenter, remarked that the book encapsulates the history of the debate movement in Bangladesh. He described it as a kind of guidebook for debaters.
The event was moderated by journalist and former debater Mahfuz Mishu.
Shahreen Haque, the head of the book’s publishing house, Suborno Prakashani, said, "This unique attempt at a biofiction based on debate experiences will offer readers a new and refreshing experience."
