A delegation led by Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Iwama Kiminori, called on advisor Dr. Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser for the ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges, and Railways, in his ministry office on Sunday.
Welcoming them the advisor requested for Japan's full cooperation in renovating the Mirpur 10 and Kazipara stations of the metro rail on an urgent basis.
He discussed integrated energy and power master plan review and establishment of a land terminal of LNG.
Fouzul Kabir Khan requested Japan for budgetary assistance to facilitate the payment to the foreign against the electricity and energy imports.
At that time, Japanese ambassador Iwama Kiminori said that he had a talk with the chief advisor and finance advisor and work has already started in this regard.
The ambassador expressed his condolences to the victims of the recent floods and assured cooperation in the reconstruction of the damaged facilities in the power and energy, roads, highways, bridges and railways sectors.
Senior Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division Md. Ehsanul Haque and Senior Secretary of Power Division Md. Habibur Rahman were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, representatives of Bangladesh Independent Power Producers' Association (BIPPA) met Dr. Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan and exchanged views at the meeting room of the Ministry on Sunday.
During the meeting, he said that from now on the private sector will have to get jobs through competition.
He noted that a plan will be placed to increase the use of renewable energy in the power sector. "In this case the private sector will be encouraged but they will have to get the work through competition", he added.
The adviser said that the Speedy Increase of Power and Energy Supply (Special) Act and the Section 34KA of the BERC Act have been suspended. If necessary, initiatives will be taken to examine and amend/repeal the laws.
The leaders of the BIPPA presented their several demands at this time and the advisor assured them to consider their requests sincerely.
Senior Secretary of Power Division Md. Habibur Rahman, former chairman of the BIPPA Imran Karim, current general secretary Abdul Halim and other leaders and senior officials of the ministry were present in the views exchange meeting.
