Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali on Wednesday said that the police are planning extensive security measures for the upcoming Pohela Boishakh celebrations in the capital.
The DMP Commissioner said this at a coordination meeting held at the DMP headquarters in the city’s Minto Road on Wednesday.
The top officer of the DMP said that the Pohela Boishakh is a festival close to the heart of every Bengali. As in previous years, various organisations will host several events across different locations in Dhaka city on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh.
He also said that the DMP has formulated a comprehensive security plan to ensure the celebrations take place in a joyful, festive, and safe environment.
The coordination meeting was attended, among others, by representatives from various agencies, including the Proctor of Dhaka University, intelligence agencies, specialized units of the police, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Health Directorate, Dhaka South and North City Corporations, Fire Service and Civil Defence, DPDC, WASA, Public Works Department, Bangla Academy, Dhaka University’s Faculty of Fine Arts, TSC's Combined Cultural Group, Shayanat, Rishij Cultural Group, Shakyamuni Buddhist Vihar, and several public and private service organizations.
DMP’s Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented an overview of the security plan through a PowerPoint presentation. Afterward, representatives from the various attending organisations engaged in an open discussion and shared their valuable insights.
The meeting was also attended by DMP's Additional Commissioners (Traffic) Md Sarwar, Additional Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallik SN Mohammad Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), as well as senior police officials and representatives from other relevant organizations.
