A massive traffic jam was created on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Sunday following a blockade enforced by Inqilab Moncho, demanding the swift arrest and trial of those responsible for the killing of martyr Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
A group of protesters blocked the highway in front of Uttara’s BNS Centre, causing a long tailback on both sides of the road.
During a visit to the area, UNB found protesters chanting slogans demanding justice for Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
Due to the blockade, commuters faced severe suffering as vehicular movement on the highway came to a halt.
Talking to UNB, a pedestrian said he had been waiting for several hours to travel from Uttara to Jatrabari, but no buses were operating on the route.
“We, the common people, always suffer because of such demonstrations. It is really painful,” he added.
