A 30-year-old woman, who sustained burn injuries in an explosion apparently from gas leak at a building in the capital’s Jatrabari area, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday.
The deceased was identifiedby one name as Eti, wife of Ripon of Jatrabari area.
Earlier on Thursday, three members of a family sustained serious burn injuries in an explosion around 1:40am apparently from gas leak on the ground floor flat of a six-storey building on Shahid Faruk Road in the capital’s Jatrabari area.
The injured were Ripon, 40, who suffered 70 percent burns, his wife Eti, 30, who suffered 45 percent burns and their daughter Rafia, aged around 3 to 5 years, who sustained 90 percent burns, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The injured were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where Eti breathed his last around 1 pm, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police camp.
The fire broke out reportedly after a mosquito coil was lit triggering an explosion believed to have resulted from accumulated gas inside the flat.
