The Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Jatiyo Party lawmaker Anisul Islam Mahmud on Monday suggested a joint initiative comprising India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and the United States to address the ongoing Myanmar issue, including the Rohingya crisis.

Apart from cabinet posts under the successive AL-led governments since 2009, Anisul Islam Mahmud served as the country's foreign minister under the Ershad regime from 1985-90.
