Four people including a minor girl died after being struck by lightning in Thakurgaon and Kurigram districts respectively on Tuesday.
Moreover, 10 people including children were injured in the lightning strikes.
The deceased were identified as Ariful Islam, 18, son of Dulal Uddin, Munir Islam, 27, son of Nazrul Islam, both hailed from Laothuti village under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, Ataur Rahman, 24, son of Mujibur Rahman, of Kalibari village under Baliadangi upazila of the same district, and Kazli Akter, 10, daughter of Abdul Quader of Char Alga under Ulipur upazila of Kurigram.
Some of the injured were identified as Ruman, 8, Rana, 12, Sakibul, 11 and Faisal, 7.
Locals and police said a lightning struck Ariful and Munir while bathing in a water body, leaving them dead on the spot in Laothuti village in the afternoon. Four more were injured in the incident.
Moreover, Atatur faced the same fate while working in a field in Kalibari village of the Baliadangi upazila at noon.
Five more people sustained injuries in the lightning. They were admitted to Baliadangi Upazila Health Complex.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana confirmed the fatalities saying that assistance will be provided to the victims’ families from the district administration.
On the other hand, the 10-year-old Kazli was killed after being struck by lightning when she, accompanied by her mother Nurina Begum, was going to a field to bring back cattle in the afternoon.
Her mother was also injured in the incident.
Earlier on Monday, the 50-year-old Jamal Uddin also died after being struck by lightning on his way home from a field with cattle.
