A Faridpur tribunal on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment in a case filed over the rape of an eight-year-old girl in 2022.
The convict Amirul Mridha, 32, son of Anwar Mridha of Boalmari upazila was present during the sentencing.
Faridpur Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Shamima Parveen handed down the punishment and fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer three months more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the girl used to live at Kamalapur Peon Colony in Saltha upazila.
On June 19, 2022, the convict took the girl to a forest behind a dormitory adjacent to the colony after alluring her to give money and violated the girl.
Getting no whereabouts of the girl, her mother started searching and rescued the girl from the forest in a bloody condition.
Later, she was taken to a local hospital.
