They also announced that if their demands are not met soon they will stage sit-in protest at National University abstaining from all academic activities from December 4. They will also hand over memorandums to relevant authorities and start countrywide human-chain programme on the same date.
They came up with the demands at a press conference arranged by Bangladesh Non-Government Honour’s-Master’s College Teachers’ Forum at Jatiya Press Club.
Convener of the forum Nekbar Hossain said teachers working in private colleges get a measly salary of Tk 2500 to 10000 which is far less than MPO enlisted college teachers.
“NU authority was supposed to appoint teachers through Non-government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) exam but they chose to ignore it…there is no specific government policy in appointing teachers for Honours-Masters course in private colleges under NU,” he said.
He further mentioned that NU Vice-chancellor did not respond to their request of amending ‘Non-government Educational Institutions' (School and College) Manpower Organogram and MPO Policy 2018’ and including teachers of Honour’s-Master’s courses.
Forum’s member secretary Mehrab Ali said private college teachers have been deprived for 27 years.
“Some of us don’t even get Tk 2500 a month…how a family can survive with such small amount you can tell better,” he added.
He announced that their protests will continue until the demands are met.
