Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said respect for the soul of Sheikh Russel and the other martyrs of August 15, 1975, will be more complete when the masks of the perpetrators of the carnage including BNP founder Ziaur Rahman are exposed and brought to justice.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the graves of the martyrs of August 15, 1975 including Sheikh Russel at Banani graveyard in the capital on Wednesday morning on the occasion of the 60th birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu.

“Today, on the birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, I pray for the salvation of his soul,” said Hasan, also the joint general secretary of Awami League.
“Those who have seen the biopic of Bangabandhu, which is now being screened in the cinema halls, will see that when Sheikh Russel, who took shelter under the stairs of the house during the massacre, was being dragged, Sheikh Russel said, 'I want to go to my mother.' The killers took him to the body of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib and shot him dead. In other words, this murder is proof of how brutal, barbaric the killers were that day,” added the AL leader.

"Sadly, BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was one of the main perpetrators of this crime against humanity that took place on August 15. They are continuing the politics of murder through which they emerged,” he added.
