Ruhul Amin Gazi and Kader Gani Chowdhury were elected president and secretary general respectively in the election of a faction of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists.
Kaikobad Milon, chairman of the election steering board of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, announced the results after counting on Friday night at the National Press Club auditorium.
The new leaders of the organization were elected by 337 councillors for the next two years.
The biennial council session of the BNP-backed Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists was held at the auditorium on Friday morning. BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan inaugurated the session. The inauguration ceremony of the council was followed by a working session. After the voting from 2 pm to 5 pm, the results were announced at night.
In this election, 'Gazi-Gani Parishad' led by Ruhul Amin Gazi and Kader Gani Chowdhury and 'Abdullah-Rokon Parishad' led by incumbent president M Abdullah and secretary general Nurul Amin Rokon contested.
Ruhul Amin Gazi was elected president with 196 votes while his opponent M Abdullah got 147 votes. Kader Gani Chowdhury was elected secretary general with 224 votes and his nearest rival Md Nurul Amin Rokon (Ind) bagged 112 votes.
The other elected office bearers are Vice-Presidents AKM Mohsin, Obaidur Rahman Shahin and Muhammad Khairul Bashar, Assistant Secretary General Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, Sadiqul Islam Swapan, Basir Jamal, Treasurer Shahidul Islam, Organizing Secretary Erfanul Haque Nahid, Office Secretary Abu Bakar, Publicity Secretary Shahjahan Saju.
The elected executive members are Shaheen Hasnat, Modabber Hossain, Arpana Roy, Muhammad Abu Hanif, M Hamidul Haque Manik, Mirza Selim Reza and Abdur Razzak Bachchu.
