Saraswati Puja, one of the main religious festivals of the Hindu community, will be celebrated in the country on Friday.

As Saraswati is considered as the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, Hindu devotees, especially students, celebrate the Puja in different educational institutions and temples.

It is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Magh, as Goddess Saraswati was born on this day.

The day is called 'Vasant Panchami'.

Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University has completed all preparations to celebrate Saraswati Puja on Friday.

A total of 76 puja mandaps have been set up under the supervision of Jagannath Hall administration, said a press release on Thursday.

The annual festival will be held on the historic Jagannath Hall campus with participation from students of different departments and institutes of the university.

The programme will include traditional religious rituals, cultural events, devotional music and offerings, reflecting the long-standing heritage of Saraswati Puja at the hall.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday issued a message extending his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to members of the Hindu community on this occassion.

In his message, he said Bangladesh is a shining example of communal harmony where for thousands of years people of all religions and ethnicities have lived together in mutual respect and amity.

“This country belongs to all of us. Bangladesh is a safe and peaceful homeland for everyone, irrespective of religion or caste,” he said.

The Chief Adviser also expressed hope that education would not be confined to personal advancement alone but would also contribute to the progress of society.

Prof Yunus wished peace, welfare and prosperity to all citizens of Bangladesh including followers of the Hindu faith.
