The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday cancelled the nomination of independent candidate of Chattogram-4 constituency as he is serving as an officer of the health ministry.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Election Commission and fined Salahuddin Tk one lakh for concealing information.
It also asked the candidate to deposit the money to the Day Care Centre of the Supreme Court within seven days.

Besides, it asked the Director General of the Directorate General of the Health Services (DGHS) and Chattogram Civil Surgeon to take departmental action against assistant health officer Salauddin after investigation.
Advocate Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz stood for the EC.
The returning officer concerned cancelled his nomination for ‘fraudulence’ on collecting signatures of one percent of voters.
Later, he filed an appeal petition against the EC’s decision which was rejected.
He filed a writ petition with the High Court to get back his candidacy which was also rejected by the court.

Meanwhile, he filed an appeal petition with the Appellate Division seeking candidacy and on December 21, the Chamber Judge asked the EC to accept his nomination and allocate a symbol for him.
On December 27, the EC filed another petition seeking scrapping of the candidature of Salauddin for breaching the electoral code of conduct.
Advocate Shamim Aziz, said Salauddin who has been serving as health assistant officer of Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex since 2012 but concealed his professional identity and mentioned that he is a businessman in the affidavit.
