Sirajganj Water Development Board Divisional Deputy Engineer AKM Rafikul Islam said the water is still below the danger level but is rising alarmingly.
“The water level has risen 25cm in the last 24 hours and already the low-lying areas on the river banks have been flooded,” he said.
If the situation does not improve, then the water level will cross the danger level within a few days, he feared.

A vast swathe of crop land in Shahjadpur, Belkuchi, Chowhali, Kajipur and river island areas of Sadar upazila have been inundated, said district Department of Agricultural Extension Deputy Director Habibul Haque.
The water level started rising two weeks ago while recent rain made the situation worse, he said adding that farmers are failing to prepare seedling for Aus paddy and new vegetables due to monsoon rain.
