He came up with the remarks while speaking at a function to celebrate his birthday and publish a book on his achievements – “Nandito Sorastromontri Bir Muktijoddha Asaduzzaman Khan” at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.
Once Bangladesh turned into the heaven of terrorism and militancy but those old days have gone now, the minister said.
Referring to the Hawa Bhaban, political office of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, he said terrorists had been released when they spelled the name of the Bhaban. “But our Prime Minister asks why criminals are not caught instantly which enables us to control all the misdeeds, including militancy, drugs and terrorism,” Asaduzzaman said.
Religious leaders of the country have taken a stance against militancy which also helped the government curb it, he added.
National Professor Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme where Mostafa Kamal Uddin, secretary of Public Security Division, Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, Editor of the Dainik Kaler Kantho Emdadul Haque Milon, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion Benazir Ahmed and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam were present.
