Train movements on Dhaka-Chattogram and Chattogram-Sylhet routes which were suspended due to the arrival of two trains on the same track have returned to normalcy after one and a half hours of efforts.
The incident happened on Friday at about 3:00pm when the Chattogram-bound Karnaphuli Express train and a container train reached Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura railway junction on the same rail track.
As a result, the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express train got stuck at Akhaura junction, while the Chattogram-bound Paharika express train was stranded at Azampur station.
According to sources at Akhaura railway station, the Chattogram-bound Karnaphuli Express was waiting on Platform No 1 when the Chattogram-bound No 604 container train tried to enter the station on the same track.

“I entered the train following a signal. When I saw that another train was standing in front me, I pulled the brake immediately and stopped the train,” said Abu Talha, Assistant Operator of the container train.
Khayrul Islam, the station cabin master, said that he didn’t know why the operator of the container train had crossed the signal.
“Train movement resumed after we solved the problem. Currently all the trains are arriving and leaving the station smoothly,” said Md Alif Hossain Sikder, Officer In-charge (OC) of Akhaura Railway Police Station.
