Dhaka, Aug 10 (UNB) – Claiming that all the garment workers have already been paid their wages and bonus, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has said the payment will not be a media issue from the next year.
"In spite of all the difficulties that our industry has faced recently with costs going up by over 30 percent, our members have been able to send our workers home in a festive mood by covering their salary and bonus,” the GMEA said in a statement.
The apex trade body of the country’s apparel sector said no worker was left out to the best of its knowledge as the team at BGMEA has been vigilant and diligently supervised.
It expressed the hope that the payment of salary and bonus will not be a media event from the next year. It is, by default, an industry needs to pay the salary and bonus and be a partner in the joy and festive mood of the workers who, at the end of our day, determine the sustainability of the industry," the statement said.
