Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammed Yunus on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the demise of National Professor Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury.
"I have never thought of hearing such a sad news waking up in the morning. Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury is my old friend. I am saddened that I have lost a very close friend," Prof Yunus said in a condolence message.
The National Professor passed away early Tuesday at a hospital in Dhaka. He was 77. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have mourned his death.

Prof Yunus said a meeting was scheduled to be held among us at 12pm today chaired by Prof Choudhury.
“We were taking preparations yesterday. But he is no more today. [I] had a plan to have a meeting over phone with him today," the Nobel Laureate said.

Prof Yunus said that in his personal life Prof Choudhury’s honesty was beyond question and recalled his huge contributions to the country.
He also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of the renowned civil engineer and educationist.
