Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Tuesday stressed the need for the participation of people in curbing pollution to protect the environment.
“The government has taken various steps to protect the environment. However, the enforcement of laws is not enough to control pollution…the participation of people is very crucial here,” she said.
The environment adviser made the remark at a views-exchange meeting with members of the Bangladesh Climate Change Journalists Forum (BCJF) in her ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
She urged journalists to play a more effective role in increasing public awareness in controlling environmental pollution.
“The government focuses on controlling air pollution and noise pollution, but it won’t be possible to successfully implement (government’s initiatives) without public awareness. We want people to start leading an environment-friendly lifestyle,” she said.
Rizwana Hasan said collective efforts are needed to protect Bangladesh from the adverse impacts of climate change.
BCJF president Kawsar Rahman and general secretary Motahar Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
