Leaders of five political parties allied with the BNP in the simultaneous movement against the Awami League government held separate meetings with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday.

The meetings took place in the afternoon at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.

During the discussions, the leaders talked about the country’s current political situation, the law-and-order condition and the forthcoming national election.

The alliance partners are Nagorik Oikya, Ganosamhati Andolan, Labour Party, Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam and AB Party.

The delegations were led by Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Ganosamhati Andolan Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, AB Party President Mujibur Rahman Monju, Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran, and Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam Vice President Maulana Junayed Al Habib.

Before the meetings, the leaders signed the condolence book opened in memory of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Among the alliance partners, Mahmudur Rahman Manna is contesting the Bogura-2 seat, Maulana Junayed Al Habib the Brahmanbaria-2 seat, and Zonayed Saki the Brahmanbaria-6 seat, under an electoral understanding with the BNP.

Earlier in the morning, leaders of the left-leaning alliance Democratic United Front also met Tarique Rahman. They discussed the overall political situation, law and order and various issues related to the upcoming national election.

The left leaders also spoke about the country’s economic situation and expressed concern over the growing trend of extremism during the meeting held at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.

Later in the evening, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan visited the office, signed the condolence book and met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
