Dhaka Mohammedan SC Ltd advanced to the 3rd slot in the eleven-team Bangladesh Premier League ( BPL) Football'2022-23 beating Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 2-1 goals at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Fl Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Saturday.
Mali striker Souleymane Diabate scored both the goals for the traditional black and whites Mohammedan in the 61st and 73rd minutes (2-0).
Defender Mohammad Tareq netted the lone goal for the port city team Abahani in the 82nd minute (2-1).
After the day's match, Dhaka Mohammedan SC jumped two steps ahead (3rd slot) in the league table toppling Sheikh Jamal DC and Sheikh Russel KC securing 19 points from 13 encounters while Chittagong Abahani remained at relegation zone (10th slot) with nine points from 12 outings.
Holders Bashundhara Kings, which outplayed Rahmatganj MFS by 4-0 goals in their last match on Friday, now in handshake distance from league crown securing 37 points from 13 matches as their nearest rivals Dhaka Abahani were almost out of the race with 27 points from 13 matches after suffering 0-1 defeat against lowly Muktijoddha SKC in Friday's other match.
In the day's other match, Fortis Football Club outplayed relegation bound Azampur Football Club, Uttara by 4-0 goals at the Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium in Rajshahi Saturday afternoon.
Amiruddin put Fortis FC ahead in the 3rd minute (1-0), Gaira doubled the margin in the 71st minute (2-0), Omar scored the 3rd goal in the 79th minute (3-0) while Shakawat sealed the fate of the match scoring the 4th goal in the added time (90+4 minute) of the match.
After the match, Fortis FC advanced to the 7th slot in the league table securing 15 points from 13 matches while Azampur FC remained at the bottom with three points from 12 encounters.
