BPPA holds workshop for journalists on procurement
The Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) on Wednesday briefed journalists on key aspects of the proposed Public Procurement Rules (PPR), 2025, at a workshop held at the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED).
Over 50 journalists from newspapers, television channels, online portals, and news agencies joined the event, which was organised by BPPA and managed by the Bangladesh Center for Communication Programs (BCCP).
The workshop was part of BPPA’s ongoing series of consultations with stakeholders on the draft PPR, 2025.
IMED Secretary Md Kamal Uddin attended the programme as chief guest, while BPPA Chief Executive Officer and Secretary SM Moin Uddin Ahmed presided over the session.
Shah Eyamin-Ul Islam, Director of BPPA, presented the major features of the proposed rules, as he has done in earlier consultation sessions.
Speaking on the occasion, the IMED Secretary said the workshop aimed to make journalists aware of the ongoing reform process in public procurement.
He also noted that the government has been providing training to stakeholders on procurement management.
BPPA CEO Moin Uddin Ahmed highlighted the background, rationale, and necessity of the proposed rules. He said the revisions were being introduced in line with changing needs, while automation had already helped curb irregularities in public procurement.
The draft PPR, 2025, was prepared following the amendment of the Public Procurement Act, 2006, through the Public Procurement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, published in the official gazette on May 4 this year.
As the existing Public Procurement Rules, 2008, needed to be aligned with the amended Act, and based on wide-ranging stakeholder feedback, BPPA has drafted an entirely new set of rules.
