State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has directed the top officials of power distribution companies to float a realistic plan to promote net metering for electricity generation through the rooftop solar system.

Omera Solar, a subsidiary of the country’s business conglomerate East Coast Group, has installed a rooftop solar system for producing 462.44 kilowatt of electricity for the country’s renowned garment industry Fakir Fashion Ltd in its Rupganj factory.  

Emphasising the need for an integrated initiative for promotion of renewable energy, experts have said that some 2,000 MW of solar power could be easily generated across the country on the rooftops of some 5,000 government buildings.
