SAT presents annual report on "student torturing in DU dorm"
Members of Students Against Torture (SAT), a student-friendly organisation which stands for the rights of students, held a press conference at the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA) office presenting an annual report on the matter of students facing torture in the dormitories of Dhaka University.
The press conference was held around 3.30 pm which was headed by the founder of SAT Saleh Uddin Sifat.
"At least 11 incidents of torturing students in six DU halls have come to light where 18 students were tortured physically and mentally in the last five months. However, all the cases remained unsolved except for three incidents," press release reads.

Besides five journalists including three campus correspondents were attacked and tortured on the DU campus but the DU authority didn’t take any initiative to punish the attacker.
Saleh Uddin Sifat said that the ruling party's student organization Bangladesh Chhatra League was directly involved in these incidents.
"From now on, SAT will publish semi-annual and annual reports on other human rights violations, such as torture and abuse. We are presenting this report to the university administration so that the university authority investigates every incident of torture and takes proper action against the perpetrators," he added.

Asking the university administration to form ‘Administrative Rules’ and laws against guestroom abuse, they said that "If this torture does not stop at the earliest, we will be obliged to go to the honorable Chancellor and the High Court."

Torture at DU dorm: 3 students expelled
Authorities at Dhaka University’s Bijoy Ekattor have expelled three students for six months for torturing a fresher at the dormitory’s so-called guestroom.
The three students are Kamruzzaman Raju of Sociology Department, Hriday Ahmed Kajal of History Department and Md. Yamin Islam of the Social Welfare faculty. They are the students of 2019-20 academic session.

Earlier, a three-member inquiry committee was formed led by Prof. Shah Miran.
Prof. Salam said the investigation committee submitted its report on January 31 following which the administration issued the six-month expulsion order against the three students, found involved in the incident.
The expelled students are reportedly the followers of the DU Chhatra League leaders Abu Yunus and Saddam Hussein.

On January 26, Akhtarul Islam, a student of the 2020-21 session of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Bijoy Ekattor hall, was physically and mentally tortured for not attending the guestroom meeting by some students of the 2019-20 session.
After the incident, Akhtar lodged a written complaint to the provost of the hall.
