DUJ Office Secretary Amir Muhammad said Union President Abu Zafar Surya and General Secretary Sohel Haidar Chowdhury in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 26, 2019) said obstructing the publication of a newspaper is not desirable in any way.
“Such threat not only negatively impacts the country’s media, but also the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitution of Bangladesh,” the statement further said.
Demanding the arrest of the criminals who are behind the evil act immediately, they said if the perpetrators are not given exemplary punishment, freedom of expression in the country will falter, impeding democracy.
Unidentified miscreants entered the Daily Times Printing Press, from where The Asian Age is printed, on November 19 and asked the press authorities not to print the daily. A general diary was filed with the Tejgaon police station the same day.
