The final session of the Green Day Training (GDT) under the National Earth Olympiad (NEO) 2025 has been held at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), following earlier training sessions held across Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Khulna divisions.
Top participants from the Dhaka division received certificates during the concluding event held on Tuesday.
Dr Md Hafizur Rahman, head of the Department of Environmental Science and Management at IUB; Dr K Ayaz Rabbani, dean of Environmental and Life Sciences at IUB; and Fareba Naz Shaule, deputy head of Sustainable Finance Unit at Prime Bank PLC, handed over the certificates.
Around 220 divisional toppers from all eight divisions participated in the training and competitive rounds of the Olympiad, which will ultimately lead to the selection of a four-member team to represent Bangladesh at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) 2025 in Ji’ning, Shandong, China.
Urban Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction Hub launched
Organised by BYEI, a youth-led environmental nonprofit, the NEO began its journey in 2012 as a national education initiative to mainstream earth, climate, and environmental science education in Bangladesh. The Olympiad aims to foster awareness and inspire leadership on urgent ecological and climate issues among young learners.
This year’s NEO is supported by Prime Bank PLC as a Training Partner and Kishor Alo as the media partner. The Department of Environmental Science and Management at IUB, the Department of Geology at Dhaka University, and the Bangladesh Geological Society are serving as strategic and knowledge partners.
