Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested nine people and recovered a police handcuff in connection with an assault on members of Dakshin Khan Police Station in the capital on Sunday.
The arrested people were identified as Lashkar Ali, Md. Nurul Islam, Md. Jahangir Alam, Zahirul Islam, Md. Kamrul Islam, Md. Nazrul Islam, Jhinuk, Khushi and Champa.
Mirpur zonal team of DB (Mirpur Division) conducted simultaneous drives in Nalbhog area under Turag police station in Uttara on Sunday and arrested them.
Earlier, a team of Dakkhin Khan police station arrested two people named Mohammad Kamrul Islam and Zahirul Islam along with some cannabis while conducting checking activities in the area adjacent to Kotbari Railgate check post. Later, 30-40 unidentified people attacked the police team by randomly throwing brickbats and snatching items of the police, including the police handcuffs.

Five police members, including an ASI, were injured during the attack on the police team. A case was filed with Dakkhin Khan police station accusing 16 named individuals and several others unnamed.
The arrested people were members of an organized drug trafficking syndicate . They have been running drug business in the area for a long time, said Additional SP Md Syful Islam.
