21 Bangladeshis held in Malaysia, syndicate posing foreigners as athletes busted
The Immigration Department in Malaysia has dismantled a syndicate trafficking foreigners disguised as athletes after detaining 21 Bangladeshi nationals in Maluri, Kuala Lumpur.
Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said three of those arrested are believed to be key members of the syndicate, reports Malaysian news agency Bernama.
“Two of the men apprehended had temporary employment visit passes (PLKS), while the third had overstayed his visa. All three are aged between 21 and 33,” he said.

"The team also confiscated 18 Bangladeshi passports, RM990 in cash, and a suspicious invitation letter for a sports competition, along with the event schedule,” he said.
The syndicate's modus operandi involved bringing in foreigners, particularly from Bangladesh, and having them pose as athletes in sports attire to evade detection by authorities.
“They also booked return flights to Bangladesh and rooms in budget hotels in Kuala Lumpur a day before the supposed match to deceive authorities,” he added.
The syndicate reportedly charged between RM2,000 and RM5,000 per person and has been operating for the past four months.
All 21 detainees have been taken to the Lenggeng Immigration Depot for suspected offences under Sections 6(3), 15(4), and 56(1)(l) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

3 more held over Cumilla Jubo League leader murder
Police arrested three more people in connection with the murder of a Jubo League leader in Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila.
The arrestees are Md. Robi of Jiarkandi area of Titas upazila of Comilla district, Md. Shahparan of the same area and Sumon Hossain of Lalpur area.
Police conducted a drive in Narayanganj's Madanpur area on Sunday night and arrested them, Cumilla District Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan said in a press conference on Monday.
The law enforcers have arrested six people so far in connection with the murder of Hubo leader Jamal Hussain.

Earlier, RAB arrested Ismail Hossain, 36, Shahinul Islam Sohel Sikder, 46 and Shah Alam, 38 from Chattogram and Dhaka on Saturday night. They are all named as accused in the case filed over the murder.
Ismail was arrested from Agrabad in Chattogram and the other two were from Rayerbagh and Kalshi in Dhaka, Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Mohammad Pasha, the company commander of RAB-11 CPC-1, said during a press conference on Sunday.
The arrested accused said that there was a dispute between them and the slain Jubo League leader for many days, he added.
Jamal Hossain, 38, the joint convener of Titas Upazila Jubo League and a businessman of Gauripur market, was shot dead at Gouripur Bazar in Daudkandi of Cumilla on Sunday (30 April).
Later, a case was filed at Daudkandi police station following a complaint lodged by the deceased's wife Popi Akter on Tuesday.

Man held with 1 kg gold at Dhaka airport
Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested a man along with six gold bars and ornaments, weighing around one kg, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka earlier today.
The arrestee was identified as Oli Ahad, 46, son of Bazlu Mia of Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria district.
Based on a tip-off, a team of APBn conducted a drive at the airport area and arrested Ahad around 1:10 am, said Additional SP of Airport Armed Police (AAP) Mohammad Ziaul Haque.

However, according to APBn, Ahad received the gold and who provided the gold to him, could not be known immediately.

4 Myanmar nationals held with drugs at Teknaf
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained four Myanmar nationals and seized 10,000 Yaba pills, 1.06 kgs of Crystal meth, 35 bottles of foreign liquor and 430 cans of beer from them at Jaliardwip in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district.
The BGB conducted the drive on Monday night.

The detainees were identified as Waz Karim, 22, son of Shafiur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman, 19, son of Amir Hakim, Md Foysal, 20, son of Anis Ahmed and Jashim uddin, son of Hossain Ahmed of Myanmar.
Among them, Foysal and Jashim were the residents of Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar and Balukhali camp.

Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area and challenged a boat while crossing the zero line of the bordering area around 10:20 pm, said Commanding officer of BGB-2, Lieutenant Colonel Mohiuddin Ahmed.

Later, they managed to detain four people and seized the drugs including beer and liquor from inside the boat.
A process is on to hand them over to Teknaf Police Station.

Two held with 35 kg hemp in Barishal
Police arrested two people along with 35 kg hemp from Barishal-Dhaka Highway in Wazirpur upazila early Sunday.
The arrestees are Manir Bepari, 48, resident of Uttarkul village of Banaripara upazila and Khorshed Alam, resident of Saldoba area of Gazipur.
Enayet Hossain, assistant director of Barishal Narcotics Control Department, said on secret information, a check post was set up at Echladi Toll Plaza in Uzirpur and then two people were arrested with the hemp while they were trying to flee in a private car.
The drug-carrying car was also seized, he added.
A case was filed against the arrestees at Uzirpur Model Police Station.

50 held in anti-drugs drives across Dhaka
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Wednesday claimed to have arrested 50 people on charges of selling and consuming banned drugs.
Sources at the DMP headquarters said Detective Branch sleuths and local police conducted drives across the city in the past 24 hours and arrested them.
Around 4,766 pieces of yaba, 44.320kg cannabis, 150g heroin, 72 bottles of foreign liquor, and 20 bottles of Phensedyl, a codeine-based cough syrup that fetches a high price in the narcotics market of Bangladesh, were recovered from the possession of the accused, the sources told UNB.

Thirty-one cases were registered at local police stations against them under the Narcotics Control Act.

3 members of gang of thieves held in Kurigram
Police arrested three alleged members of a gang of thieves in Sadar upazila of Kurigram on Thursday night.
The arrestees are Asif Iqbal ,40, of Hospital Para area, Saddam, 29, of the same area and Hridoy, 26, of Horikes Madhyapara area.
A team of Sadar police conducted a special drive in the Judge Court area on Thursday night and arrested them, said Khan Muhammad Shahriar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar police station.
During the drive, a stolen motorcycle and some goods were seized from their possessions.
The arrestees were sent to jail on Friday, added the OC.

Shotguns, bullets snatched from Ansar members recovered; 10 held
Two shots guns and two bullets, which were snatched away by a group of robbers from two Ansar members from Boro Bazar in Narsingdi, have been recovered from different parts of the country on Monday, six days after the incident.
Police also arrested ten members of an inter-district robber gang from Narsingdi, Munshiganj, Brahmanbaria, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Bagerhat and Khulna district.
Kazi Ashraful Azim, superintendent of Narsingdi Police, came up with the information while speaking at a press briefing, held at his office on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Anwar Dewan of Munshiganj district, Delwar Khalifa, Moti Khalifa and Aleya Begum of Shariatpur district, Kalu Hawladar, Farid Hawladar, Mohammad Faruk of Madaripur district, Sheikh Al Mamun and Anwar Hossain of Bagerhat district and Shafiqul Islam of Brahmanbaria district.
Following interrogation, police recovered the arms and bullets from the house of a relative of one robber, said SP Ashraful.
Earlier, on December 26, a gang of robbers attacked two Ansar members and snatched their arms near Bangladesh Ansar and VDP camp in Narsingdi municipality.
District commandant Tanzina Binte Ershad of Bangladesh Ansar said a group of 15 to 20 robbers attacked four Ansar members with local weapons around 1:30am while they were patrolling in front of the Ansar camp in Boro Bazar area.
“The robbers tied up two Ansar members with a rope while the others managed to flee. They snatched 2 shotguns and 10 rounds of bullets from their possession,” she added.
Lutfur Nahar Latifa, an Ansar VDP officer of Sadar upazila lodged a complaint with Sadar Model Police Station.

Man held in police custody after wife found dead in Sherpur
Police took a 38-year-old man into custody as a suspect in the killing of his wife of 10 years over family feuds at Boyra Paranpur village of Sherpur's Sadar upazia early Monday.
Police also suspects that the husband, Md Shafiqul Islam, might have tried to end his own life as he was found to have taken pesticides and lay unconcious beside the body of wife, Parvin Begum,32.
Shafiqul is undergoing treatment at a local hospital under police watch and he will be questioned about the incident after he gets well, police said.

According to the locals, Parvin had allegedly been subjected to torture by her husband since their marriage 10 years ago. The couple has two children.A few months ago, Parveen went to her father's house after quarrels with her husband.
On Sunday night, Shafiqul went to his father-in-law's house and allegedly strangled his wife, said locals.Parvin's mother entered her daughter's room in the morning as she found it unusually calm since early morning and saw Parvin and her husband lying on the floor, said Bosir Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar police station.

Eloped teenage girl from India rescued in Faridpur, lover held
Police rescued a 16-year-old Indian girl from Faridpur just before she married her 21-year-old Bangladeshi lover.
The girl was identified as Puja Bishwas, daughter of Sunil Dash from Nadia district in India’s West Bengal, said Suman Kar, Assistant Superintendent of Faridpur police on Saturday.
Her Bangladeshi boyfriend is Tonmoy Rajbanshi, 21, from Gunbaha village in Boalmari municipality in Faridpur - also detained by police.

On information, the girl was rescued on Friday around 11 pm from Poail village where the arrangements to officiate their wedding were made, said ASP Suman Kar.
Puja and Tonmoy were involved in a romantic affair through Facebook. On Friday 4pm Puja came to Boalmari and from there Tonmoy took her to his brother-in-law’s house in Poail village.
“The girl had no passport or visa with her and she was underage for marriage,” said Md Abdul Wahab, Officer-in-Charge of Boalmari police station.
Tonmoy was held for alluring the girl to come to Bangladesh and has been presented to court under section 54 of CrpC (Code of Criminal Procedure) on Saturday, said the OC.
Meanwhile, the court sent Puja to a juvenile correction centre under the Social Service Department, said OC Abdul Wahab.
