There are many big stars in other sports besides cricket and football. They have been shining in their own field silently. Here we will talk about those big stars of a small game, Table Tennis. Usually, Table Tennis players don’t get highlights like other big games. But they are silently representing Bangladesh in international arenas.

We have listed the top Bangladeshi table tennis players of all time. We have considered both retired and current players while making this list.

Zobera Rahman Linu

Zobera Rahman Linu is considered the Queen of table tennis in Bangladesh. She dominated the women’s table tennis section for more than two decades. This athlete has taken herself to a unique height and has spread Bangladesh’s name in the world. Furthermore, Linu won the National Championship 18 times, which led her to the Guinness Book of the World record.

Linu started her national career at the age of 12 in 1977 and became the national champion. After that, she won the championship 16 times from 1979 to 2011. Besides, she also won table tennis three times in Bangladesh games in 1988, 92, and 96.

Due to her outstanding performance and contribution to table tennis, Zobera Rahman Linu won many awards throughout his career. She holds more than 150 table tennis championship awards from different countries.

Despite receiving so many honors at the national and international level, she could not use his vast experience in the Bangladesh National Table Tennis Federation.

Manash Chowdhury

Manash Chowdhury can easily get the ‘All-rounder’ title as he is versatile. Once upon a time, Manash dominated in table tennis. Besides, he is a singer, and professionally he is a doctor. Manash is like three in one.

Even at the age of 43, he made a storm on the table tennis table. Although the game is addictive to Manash, he could not take TT as a profession. And, this is not possible in the reality of Bangladesh. He developed his career as a dentist.

Manash got familiar with the TT at the age of 12 when his father gifted him a table tennis bat from the stadium. Then in 1990, he took part in the first national junior championship and became the champion in 1991. So far, he has been the national champion five times and runners-up four times.

He also shined Bangladesh’s name and Won the bronze in the SA Games. Bangladesh won bronze in SAARC ASEAN TT, and Manas was also on that team. He has played in the World Cup and World TT Championship five times.

 Manas has also brought success to the country in the international arena. Won the bronze in the SA Games. Bangladesh won bronze in SAARC ASEAN TT; Manas was also in that team. He has played in the World Cup and World TT Championship five times.

Mahbub Billah

Besides Manash Chowdhury, Mahbub Billah also dominated Table Tennis for the last 11 years. Mahbub is a lawyer who sharted Tennis at a very young age at Narail. He won the national championship five times. Mahbub Billah also joined the Tennis World Championship three times but failed to nag champions.

Later Mahbub paired up with his wife Rumi and played for Biman, Answer, and the national team since 2002 to play mixed doubles.

Moumita Alam Rumi

School Teacher Rumi has been a great player under his husband, Mahbub Billah. She recently won the double crown in National Senior Table Tennis. She has become the champion in girls’ singles and doubles.

However, Rumi has been playing with her husband as a pair for a long time and won several mixed doubles.

Sonom Sultana Soma

Soma won the national championship five times in his career. Soma set a new record after winning her last national championship title in 2017. She returned to TT after three years as she gave birth to his son. She really worked hard to raise her performance.

Soma is still active, and her most recent win came at Federation Cup Ranking Table Tennis in 2020. She won the Federation Cup ranking title by defeating Nawrin Sultana Mahi.

Mostafa Billah

Mostafa Billah is the only Bangladeshi table tennis player who has a diploma degree in table tennis from the National Institute of Sports in Patiala, which he obtained in 2002-03. Mostafa started his professional career in 1991 and led the Bangladesh table tennis team in South Asian Games in 2010. Besides, he won the national championship in 2005. Currently, Mostafa Billah is serving as table tennis coach of BKSP.  

Other Notable Players

Apart from the legendary players we have mentioned above, there are some other young players who portray a great prospect. Other players are Mufradul Khayer Hamza shojib, Rocky, Saleha, Sadia Rahman Mou, Akhi Akter Synthi, and more. These players will represent Bangladesh soon.

Final Words

Bangladesh’s table tennis is silently growing, but it is not getting enough attention from the government as well as other private organizations. However, Bangladesh Tennis Federations has already taken some necessary steps to improve the situation. For example, they have hired an Indian coach for a short term to teach seven table tennis enthusiasts.

On top of that, a few players were also sent to India for further improvements. The Federation is also planning to arrange different local championships. The newly elected General Secretary of the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation aims to spread the TT at the school level. And that’s how he will create players from the school level.
