Dhaka Table Tennis League under way
The Walton Dhaka Metropolis Table Tennis League, organized by Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF),began on Thursday at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital
Director General of BKSP Brigadier General AKM Mazharul Haque inaugurated the league in the morning as chief guest.
Senior Executive Director of the league sponsor Walton Hi Tech Industries FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Don, BTTF General Secretary Sheikh M Jahangir Alam and league committe chairman Saidul Haque Saadi were also present at the day's inaugural function, presided by BTTF acting President Khondakar Hasan Monir Sumon.

Four women's group and 12 first division league matches were decided on the opening day.
A total 10 teams are taking part in the Men's Premier League while nine teams in the Women's League.
Foreign players will not participate this time in the league.
Besides, 32 teams are playing in the first division league.

Sadia Islam Mou of Bangladesh made a good start in women's singles Table Tennis of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games beating her rival from Djibouti by 3-0 straight sets held in the Turkish city of Konya on Sunday.She will play the next match against her Pakistani rival.Another Bangladeshi paddler Sonam Sultana Soma, who got walkover against Guyana in the day's other match. will play next match against her rival from Cameroon.In the men's singles, Mohtasin Ahmed Hridoy of Bangladesh lost to his Iranian rival by 2-3 sets while another Bangladeshi Ramhim Leam Boom lost to his Tajik rival by straight 0-3 sets.In the women's handball, Bangladesh team conceded 10-51 goals defeat against hosts Turkey.

Bangladesh was eliminated from the men's team event quarterfinal of the the 22nd Commonwealth Games in Birmingham losing to India on Sunday..Bangladesh, which reached the quarterfinal defeating Fiji and Guyana, faced stronger India and lost the matchIn the doubles match, Indian Harmeet Desai pairing with Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, defeated Rahhimliam Bawm and Ahmed Ridoy of Bangladesh by 3-0 sets. The Indian pair won the games by 11-8, 11-6, and 11-2 points.In the singles match, Sharath Kamal Achanta defeated Rifat Sabbir by 3-0 sets. Achanta won the games by 11-4, 11-7, and 11-2 points.

He won the games by 11-2, 11-3, and 11-5 points.In the games swimming, Bangladeshi swimmers Asif Reza and Sonia Khatun participated in their events and failed to qualify for the next round.In the women’s 50m Butterfly, Sonia Khatun finished 42nd with a timing of 30.94 seconds.In men’s 100m freestyle, Asif finished 50th with a timing of 54.24 seconds.Bangladeshi athletes will take part in five more events on Monday.In the swimming, Sukumar Rajbonashi will take part in the heat of the Men’s 50m breaststroke, Mahamudun Nobi Nahid will participate in the heat of Men's 100m Butterfly and Morium Akter will compete in Women's 100m Breaststroke.In Boxing, Bangladesh’s Salim will face India’s Mohammed Hussam Uddin in the round of 16 fights in the Men’s over 54kg- 57kg (Featherweight) category.

BSJA Sports: Nayon clinches doubles crown in table tennis
Shahanuzzaman Khan Nayon clinched the doubles crown in the table tennis competition of the Walton-Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) Sports Carnival Thursday in Dhaka.
Nayon won the singles title beating BM Fazle Rabbi Moon of Dhaka Tribune by 11-4, 11-6 points in the final.
Joytirmoy Mondal of Jugantor finished third in the event beating Mahbub Alam Khan Babu by 11-6, 11-7 points.
Nayon shared the doubles crown with Joytirmoy Mondal of Jugantor beating Mahbub Alam Khan Babu and Mazharul Islam pair by 11-6, 13-11 points in the final.

Syed M Mamun and BM Fazle Rabbi Moon pair finished third in the event.
Earlier, Walton Senior Executive Director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn inaugurated the week-long sports festival today at the National Sports Council (NSC) Tower.
BSJA President ATM Saiduzzaman, General Secretary Anisur Rahman, tournament committee convener Raiham Al Mugni, and tournament secretary Robiul Islam were also present.
The singles and doubles carom competition will be held Friday.

Former GS of Table Tennis Federation Shamsul Alam Anu passes away
Renowned sports organiser, former general secretary of Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation ( BHF), South Asian Table Tennis Federation and Wari Club Shamsul Alam Anu died in the capital Saturday morning.He was 79.
He breathed his last at his Uttara residence following a cardiac arrest after recovering from Covid-19 two months ago.

Shamsul Alam Anu, a former table tennis player, suffered brain hemorrhage few days ago.
He left behind wife, three sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

His namaz-e-janaza was held at Baitul Noor Jam-e Mosque at sector- 6 in Uttara after Zohr prayers.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, Bangladesh Football Federation, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) in separate messages expressed shock at the death of Shamsul Alam Anu.
