The control room was set up urgently following the directive of Minister SM Rezaul Karim at its office in Farmgate area of the capital.
The control room central number is 029122557, said a press release.
It will be active round the clock for 19 coastal districts- Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bhola, Pirojpur, Barishal, Jhalakathi, Noakhali, Feni, Chandpur, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, and Shariatpur.
Already 7,000 domestic animals were evacuated to shelters using the control room and the process will continue.
Local Fisheries Departments were directed to set up control room and provide necessary assistance to the fishermen.
Met Office said the super cyclone ‘Amphan’ over west central bay and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards and lies over the same area as an extremely severe cyclonic storm.
It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction and may cross Bangladesh coast between Khulna and Chattogram either on Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Under the influence of the cyclone and the new moon phase, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts and their offshore islands and shoals are likely to be inundated by a storm surge of 5-10 feet height of above normal astronomical tide.
