When Kaws Mia, the founder of ‘Hakimpuri Zorda’ of old Dhaka, died the country lost an ideal businessman and taxpayer.
Kaws Mia was selected as the best taxpayer for 15 consecutive times as he returned the highest income tax to the state treasury. In the last FY2022-2023, Kaws Mia was selected as the best tax payer in the businessman category as a senior citizen.
Kaws Mia (94) died at Azgar Ali Hospital in Dhaka where he was under treatment.
Anwar Sadat, grandson of Kaws Mia, said, “His grandfather was sick for last two years due to various old age complications. He was recently brought home after treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.”

Since then, he (Kaws Mian) was bedridden at Armanitola's house in Old Dhaka. When his physical condition deteriorated, he was taken to Azgar Ali Hospital. After being under treatment there for two days, he left the world forever.
The 94-year-old businessman is survived by his wife, eight sons and eight daughters. Since 2008, Kawas Mia has been one of the highest tax payers in the business category in the country. He has been paying taxes for the last 61 years. The first tax was paid in 1958.
Kaws Mia was born on August 26, 1931 in Rajarajeshwar village of Chandpur district (British-era Tripura). Despite his father's reluctance, he opened a grocery store in the old market of Chandpur in 1950 taking Tk2500 from his mother.
Later gradually became an agent of 18 brands of cigarettes, biscuits and soaps. After that he did business in Chandpur for 20 years. Having moved to Narayanganj in 1970 he started tobacco business. Before death, he was involved in 40-45 types of businesses. But his main business was tobacco.
He did business in the old market of Chandpur district town for a long time. Later he did business from Hajiganj to Narayanganj and Armanitola in Old Dhaka.
Apart from Jorda of Hakimpuri, he had various businesses. He started the business at the age of 22 and managed the business alone for 71 consecutive years.
Kaws Mia is the owner of huge cash wealth by doing business successfully since 1950 started with the capital of Tk2500 from his mother. In 1945, this businessman passed the class eighth standard and got admission for class nine.
Kwas Mia did not continue his education due to the World War II. As a teenager, he started his career as a businessman in Chandpur city.
He started tobacco business that the production of jorda. First, he released 'Shantipuri Jorda' in the market with a small factory, later, as it was copied by others, so he relaunched it with the name 'Hakimpuri Jorda', in 1996.
