3 BNP bodies set to hold ‘massive’ youth rally in Dhaka this afternoon
Three associate bodies of the BNP -- Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal -- will hold a ‘massive’ youth rally at Nayapaltan in the capital on Wednesday, with the participation of at least ‘15 lakh young people’.
Youths from Dhaka, Sylhet, Faridpur and Mymensingh will attend the rally to ensure its success, said Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will virtually join the rally as the chief guest and present the party’s political outline and future strategy to the country’s young generation, he said.
Senior BNP leaders, including Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, are also scheduled to address the rally.
“We witnessed a huge gathering of youths at our Chattogram rally. Our targets in Khulna and Bogura have been fully achieved, drawing the attention of youths from all walks of life. We expect that at least 15 lakh young people will join our Dhaka rally, breaking all previous records,” he said at a press briefing on Monday.
BNP disappointed over absence of clear election roadmap
“Youths are eagerly waiting to join the rally... by making the rally successful with their spontaneous support, the youth, who have been deprived of their voting rights for 17 years, will highlight their prime demand for the restoration of democracy,” Jilani said.
With this rally, he said, they will take a step forward in the ongoing movement for restoring the youths’ voting rights under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
Earlier, on April 28, the three BNP associate bodies announced their plans to hold four seminars and four rallies involving youths from 10 divisions, with the aim of empowering them to help build a just state structure.

JCD warns of street protests if violence against women cannot be curbed
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, on Monday warned that it would take to the streets if the government fails to curb the growing violence against women and improve the law and order situation in the country.
“We have not announced any programme so far that disrupts the activities of the interim government. But if such incidents continue, if violence against women persists and we do not get justice, we want to make it clear that Chhatra Dal will be forced to take to the streets very soon,” JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib said while addressing a human-chain programme.
As part of their nationwide programme, JCD leaders and activists formed a human chain in front of the High Court to protest the increasing incidents of rape, online harassment and violence against women, as well as the deteriorating law and order situation and the lack of justice for victims of such crimes.
Rakib expressed concerns over the unabated incidents of sexual violence and the prevailing culture of impunity.
He urged the government to take immediate action and ensure the quick and fair trial of those responsible for the rape of Asia, the eight-year-old girl from Magura.
JCD to form human chains Monday to protest violence against women
“We urge you (the government) to understand the sentiments of the entire student community in Bangladesh and ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are punished as quickly as possible,” the JCD president said.
He said the government must take immediate steps to ensure the swiftest possible justice for rape and violence against women.
“The law and order situation must be improved immediately. If this is not done, we will be forced to point fingers at you,” Rakib warned.
He said that the growing incidents of snatching are also linked to the worsening law and order situation, with attacks on Dhaka University teachers and students.
Rakib condemned the killing of a JCD leader in Narayanganj, who was stabbed to death by muggers. “Such incidents are increasing day by day. So, we are demanding urgent action to improve the law and order situation.”
He also called for the faster completion of investigations into Achia’s rape case and for justice to be delivered to the victim.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad and Bangladesh Chhatra Federation issued official protest notifications late last night against "BCL’s attack" earlier yesterday, calling it "heinous".
DU Law Dept Students say BCL men attacked their discussion
JCD’s notification -- signed by its DU unit president Gonsesh Chandra Ray Sahos and general secretary Nahiduzzaman Sipon -- reads, “Awami League’s student wing BCL thinks that everyone must follow the ideals of BCL and no one can oppose their ideology. That’s why they want to eradicate other ideologies by oppressing them. Such behaviour is nothing but a sign of fascism. We are protesting this heinous attack on students.”
Central President of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Bin Yamin Molla, and General Secretary, Ariful Islam Adeeb, also condemned the attack and issued a notification on behalf of the organisation.
“Chhatra League has created a reign of terror in the last 15 years. The latest of which is today's (yesterday) attack on a discussion about Ramadan at DU,” the notification reads.

Implementing 10 points a key New Year’s challenge for BNP: Mosharraf
BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday (January 01, 2023) said the implementation of the 10 points to oust the Awami League government is the main challenge for their party in the year 2023.
"Our challenge in the coming days is to implement the 10 points. We also must free our leader (Khaleda Zia) and bring Tarique Rahman back to the country to give him the opportunity to do politics freely,” he said.
Speaking at a rally, the BNP leader also said they will have to have all the arrested party leaders and workers, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and standing committee member Mirza Abbas, freed from jail.
“To do this, the current government has to be removed from power as soon as possible. So, we must get united and move forward with courage to implement the 10 points and bring about a change through it,” he observed.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal arranged the rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club marking its 44th founding anniversary.
Earlier on December 10 last, BNP announced a 10-point charter of demands, including the resignation of the Awami League government and the restoration of the election-time caretaker government system, to restore democracy in the country.
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said Bangladesh has been passing through a critical time as democracy, the main spirit of the Liberation War, is now destroyed.
He said the country’s people will oust the Awami League government through a united movement to establish a pro-people government. “We’ll build the country based on the 27-point outline of our party when a government is established. The darkness will end inshallah.”

The BNP leader said their party together with the country’s people, especially the students, will create a history by bringing a change in the government through simultaneous movement.
Slamming the government for what he said its repressive acts, he said Awami League will no longer be able to cling to power by suppressing the opposition leaders and activists and arresting and sending them to jail.
“You (govt) could not suppress our movement despite resorting to various repressive acts. People have already taken to the streets and you won’t be spared this time,” the BNP leader observed.
2023 to be the year of patriotic people’s success:
Earlier, BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said 2023 will be the year of success for patriotic people.
“Our goal is to achieve success… we hope that the year 2023 will be the year of success for the patriotic people of Bangladesh. This will also be the year of getting the final result of the movement for the restoration of democracy,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths together with the leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave, marking the founding anniversary of the party’s student body.
Gayeshwar said the students played a key role in everything the nation achieved since the Language Movement in 1952.
He said the people expect that the students will also now play the main role in restoring democracy and a pro-people government in the country. “We hope that the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will meet that expectation of people.
“The spirit of restoring democracy and protesting injustice can never be suppressed,” the BNP leader said.
