Grief grips slain RAB officer’s Cumilla village home
A wave of sorrow swept through Alipur village in Cumilla’s Adarsha Sadar upazila as family members, relatives, and neighbours were left in shock following the killing of RAB officer Motaleb Hossain.
Motaleb, Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of RAB-7, was shot dead and three others were injured in a gun attack by armed criminals while recovering weapons in the hilly area of Jungle Salimpur in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district on Monday.
The RAB official, the youngest of 11 children of Abdul Khaleque Bhuiyan from Alipur village, lived in a rented house in Dhaka with his family.
He is survived by two daughters and a son.
Known in his village as a friendly man, Motaleb maintained close ties with local residents.
Family members said he had returned to his workplace only two days ago after spending leave with his family.
After completing official formalities in Chattogram, his body is scheduled to be brought to his village in the afternoon.
He will be laid to rest beside the mosque in front of his house.
Locals described Motaleb as polite, calm, and well-mannered.
They called for a proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment for those responsible.
RAB officer killed in Chattogram attack; 3 others injured
Md Kamruzzaman, a member of Kalirbazar Union Parishad, expressed deep sorrow over Motaleb’s killing.
Police said jungle Salimpur is a remote hilly area where thousands of illegal settlements have developed over the past four decades on government and khas land.
The area has long served as a hideout for hill grabbers, armed criminals, and land mafias.
