Musk polls Twitter users about whether he should step down
Elon Musk is asking Twitter’s users to decide if he should stay in charge of the social media platform after acknowledging he made a mistake Sunday in launching new speech restrictions that banned mentions of rival social media websites.
In yet another drastic policy change, Twitter had announced that users will no longer be able to link to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon and other platforms the company described as “prohibited.”
But the move generated so much immediate criticism, including from past defenders of Twitter's new billionaire owner, that Musk promised not to make any more major policy changes without an online survey of users.
“My apologies. Won’t happen again,” Musk tweeted, before launching a new 12-hour poll asking if he should step down as head of Twitter. “I will abide by the results of this poll."
The action to block competitors was Musk's latest attempt to crack down on certain speech after he shut down a Twitter account last week that was tracking the flights of his private jet.
The banned platforms included mainstream websites such as Facebook and Instagram, and upstart rivals Mastodon, Tribel, Nostr, Post and former President Donald Trump's Truth Social. Twitter gave no explanation for why the blacklist included those seven websites but not others such as Parler, TikTok or LinkedIn.

Twitter had said it would at least temporarily suspend accounts that include the banned websites in their profile — a practice so widespread it would have been difficult to enforce the restrictions on Twitter's millions of users around the world. Not only links but attempts to bypass the ban by spelling out “instagram dot com” could have led to a suspension, the company said.
A test case was the prominent venture capitalist Paul Graham, who in the past has praised Musk but on Sunday told his 1.5 million Twitter followers that this was the “last straw” and to find him on Mastodon. His Twitter account was promptly suspended, and soon after restored as Musk promised to reverse the policy implemented just hours earlier.
Musk said Twitter will still suspend some accounts according to the policy but “only when that account’s (asterisk)primary(asterisk) purpose is promotion of competitors.”
Twitter previously took action to block links to Mastodon after its main Twitter account tweeted about the @ElonJet controversy last week. Mastodon has grown rapidly in recent weeks as an alternative for Twitter users who are unhappy with Musk’s overhaul of Twitter since he bought the company for $44 billion in late October and began restoring accounts that ran afoul of the previous Twitter leadership's rules against hateful conduct and other harms.
Musk permanently banned the @ElonJet account on Wednesday, then changed Twitter's rules to prohibit the sharing of another person’s current location without their consent. He then took aim at journalists who were writing about the jet-tracking account, which can still be found on other social media sites, alleging that they were broadcasting “basically assassination coordinates.”
He used that to justify Twitter's moves last week to suspend the accounts of numerous journalists who cover the social media platform and Musk, among them reporters working for The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Voice of America and other publications. Many of those accounts were restored following an online poll by Musk.
Then, over the weekend, The Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz became the latest journalist to be temporarily banned. She said she was suspended after posting a message on Twitter tagging Musk and requesting an interview.

Sally Buzbee, The Washington Post's executive editor, called it an “arbitrary suspension of another Post journalist” that further undermined Musk’s promise to run Twitter as a platform dedicated to free speech.
“Again, the suspension occurred with no warning, process or explanation — this time as our reporter merely sought comment from Musk for a story,” Buzbee said. By midday Sunday, Lorenz's account was restored, as was the tweet she thought had triggered her suspension.
Musk’s promise to let users decide his future role at Twitter through an unscientific online survey appeared to come out of nowhere Sunday, though he had also promised in November that a reorganization was happening soon.
Musk was questioned in court on Nov. 16 about how he splits his time among Tesla and his other companies, including SpaceX and Twitter. Musk had to testify in Delaware’s Court of Chancery over a shareholder’s challenge to Musk’s potentially $55 billion compensation plan as CEO of the electric car company.
Musk said he never intended to be CEO of Tesla, and that he didn’t want to be chief executive of any other companies either, preferring to see himself as an engineer instead. Musk also said he expected an organizational restructuring of Twitter to be completed in the next week or so. It’s been more than a month since he said that.
In public banter with Twitter followers Sunday, Musk expressed pessimism about the prospects for a new CEO, saying that person “must like pain a lot” to run a company that “has been in the fast lane to bankruptcy.”
“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor,” Musk tweeted.
Apple Car: The Leaks and Rumors
Apple's foray into autos has generated a great deal of speculation. Apple started working on an electric car project in 2014. However, the rumors have intensified during the last six months. Expanding to automobiles is an enormous step, especially if it intends to compete with Tesla. While it may take more time for Apple's automobile project to become a reality, leaks and rumors have already begun to circulate. Here are what people are anticipating about the Apple car.
Latest Rumors and Leaks about Apple Car
Automobile AI
Apple has not verified any rumors about the Apple automobile. However, Apple CEO Tim Cook did discuss the project in 2017. Cook's statements reveal that Apple is creating an artificial intelligence (AI) system for automobiles, eventually leading to a fully autonomous vehicle. Apple has not stated much beyond this, but Cook's comments show that Apple is working on an automobile AI system.
LiDAR
Another Bloomberg article claims that Apple is seeking a provider of next-generation LiDAR for its automobile project. LiDAR is a sophisticated sensor technology that is already used in a number of iPhone devices manufactured by Apple. This technology, when used in automobiles, is said to enable the computer to "see" its surroundings and help in the self-driving aspect.

Electric Vehicle
According to Reuters, Apple is not just developing an electric vehicle, but also a battery that may significantly enhance a vehicle's range. This battery will also cut the price of EV batteries dramatically.
According to sources familiar with the project, Apple intends to employ a "monocle" design. This increases the size of the battery's cells and removes the pouches and modules that carry battery components, allowing for the inclusion of more active material.
Advanced lighting
Apple's smart lighting patent (via 9to5 Mac) might be the answer to a widespread issue. You have spilled something on the floor of your automobile, but the interior light is inadequate. Apple's intelligent lighting would employ a combination of sensors and cameras to illuminate certain portions of the car's interior to help in your search.
As with all patents, take this one with a grain of salt, but it seems to be a wise decision. The intelligent lights also have a function that softly awakens you as your autonomous vehicle approaches its destination. The only period when it is permissible to sleep while driving.

Automated window tinting
In a manner reminiscent of a science-fiction film, another Apple patent reveals the company may be considering automated window tinting.
The patent describes a glass technology that allows users to modify the color of their windows by altering the glass's transparency. The automated aspect of the function would also enable the windows to self-tint in reaction to weather conditions outside.
Adjustable bumpers
A patent application from 2016 hinted that Apple was considering retractable bumpers. The patent describes the bumpers as including an expandable, pressurized inflated section. This is intended to deliver a gentle first impression.
It is unknown why Apple was investigating this technology, although it may have something to do with offering a sleeker design or making parking in small spots simpler.

Apple Car Manufacturer
When it comes to the actual construction of its car, it seems that Apple is seeking possible collaboration partners.
Hyundai accidentally let the cat out of the bag earlier this year when it revealed that it was "in conversation" with Apple about its next car. However, after the dissemination of this information, the business has said that neither Hyundai nor its subsidiary Kia would be continuing work on the creation of Apple's automobile.
Speculations that Apple's automobile would make use of Hyundai's technology, such as the company's E-GMP platform, might be put to rest as a result of this development.
It is believed that Apple is still holding conversations with a number of additional automobile retailers. The most recent source says that LG and Magna's e-Powertrain might be close to signing a deal with Apple to manage the first manufacturing of Apple's automobile. GM, Magna, and Groupe PSA have all been rumored to be potential partners.
According to recent sources, Apple plans to maintain its partnership with TSMC, the company that presently supplies the A-series semiconductors used in Apple's iPhones, in order to develop the technology that will be used within the vehicle. It is thought that TSMC will provide chips for Apple's automobile, and these chips are anticipated to fulfill the specifications for Level 4 or Level 5 processors.

Apple Car Team
Over the course of the development of the Apple Car, Apple has not only seen a number of team members exit but also engaged a number of industry experts to head up the project.
As of the month of August 2018, the project is being led by Doug Field, who was once an engineer at Tesla.
Ulrich Kranz, an executive who most recently worked for BMW and the business Canoo, which develops autonomous vehicles, was recently recruited by the corporation. It is yet uncertain what function Kranz will have in the development of Apple's automobile.
Other notable recruits include Manfred Harrer, a chassis engineer from Volkswagen; former Tesla executives Steve MacManus, Michael Schwekutsch, and Stuart Bowers; and Andrew Kim, a designer who formerly worked for both Tesla and Microsoft HoloLens.

Probable Release Date of Apple Car
The launch of Apple's automobile has been delayed many times, and new rumors suggest that it is still several years away from being available for purchase.
According to Reuters, the Apple Car may be available to consumers as early as 2024. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst, believes that people won't see the automobile until somewhere between 2025 and 2027.
Even if Apple speeds up the creation of its car this year, it will still need some time before it can be manufactured and put through its paces in testing. That indicates that people have years ahead of them filled with leaks and rumors.
Conclusion
Once started as a unique operating systems-based computer manufacturer, Apple has ventured into and presented a new era of technological devices and gadgets. The leaks and rumors of Apple Car which are already in the wind have triggered people’s interest. However, time will day how many of these leaks come true. Apple fans are still dubious and waiting for the tech giant to release its most anticipated Car.

Walton Primo R10 Review: Does it offer value for money?
Walton was one of the first brands in Bangladesh that emerged as an electronic conglomerate. The company started with home appliances and later ventured into features and smartphones. In its decade-long journey in the Bangladeshi smartphone market, the company has always prioritized the match between quality and affordability. Walton's latest offering, the Primo R10 is a testament to that commitment. With an entry-level price tag, the device brings some impressive features that are sure to ruffle some feathers. Here’s our detailed take on the device.
Key Specifications of Walton Primo R10
Design and Build Quality
Like other previous Walton devices, the Primo R10 has a completely plastic build all around. Walton never shied away from colors, and the R10 is available in three distinct colorways. You have bottle green, ford blue, and midnight green.
The back of the device will give an iPhone-like feel to the users thanks to the triangular camera alignment. But other than that, everything seems pretty generic and resembles the tried and tested design language of Walton.
Read More: Infinix Hot 20 5G Review: What's New
The only shocker here is the removal of the headphone jack. While the headphone jack has been a thing of the past for flagships, it is still prevalent on mid-range and budget devices. Walton has decided to remove the headphone jack from the R10. And it's almost certain that future devices will also miss out on it.
Other than that, everything else seems to be right where they’re supposed to be. There is a dual sim slot with expandable storage, a bottom-firing speaker, and a Type-C port.
The design and the build quality won’t instill anything new in the users. And given Waltons track record on the budget market, that might not be a bad thing at all.

The Display
Moving on to the display, we have an IPS V-notch display with an HD+ resolution. This is again the same display found on the Primo R9. This might be a cost-minimization strategy from Walton, but some devices come with at least FHD+ resolution at this price point.
Another minor gripe with the display is the use of the INCELL technology, which is a conventionally lower tech used on LCD panels. While higher-end LCDs don’t usually suffer from color shifting anymore, the same doesn’t hold true for the INCELL panel.
Beyond the obvious letdown with the HD+ resolution and display tech, the experience itself isn’t all too bad. For anyone coming from the R9 or similar spec devices of Walton will feel right at home as if nothing changed.

The display can’t really be considered a massive media consumptive panel. Rather it is something that will get the job done as a daily driver.
The Camera
The camera has seen a slight improvement from the R9 to the R10. The latter still boasts the same triple camera setup as that of the R9. But instead of the VGA, the R10 comes with a 2 MP depth sensor. Not that it makes much of a difference anyways.
Most of the camera work is done by the 13 MP main sensor. Walton is marketing the camera as an all-in-one solution for burst, panorama, time-lapse, slow motion, etc.
Read More: realme C33 Review: Key specs, pros, and cons
Coming to the performance itself, the camera again performs moderately as we saw on the R9. Pictures in day time come out pretty good. There are a good amount of details in each picture, and there seem to be no exposure or dynamic range issues.
But like all other generic 13 MP cameras, things start to fall apart indoors or artificial lights. There seems to be a slight improvement in the exposure compared to what we saw on the R9, but that’s about it. The videography is still 1080P at 30 fps. The videos look shaky and choppy, as usual, due to the absence of any kind of internal or external stabilization. There aren’t any other notable changes.
On the front, users will be getting an 8 MP shooter, just like the R9. The performance is nothing out of the ordinary with passable results at best.

Processor and Performance
The Walton Primo R10 comes with Unisoc Tiger T610 built on the 12 Nm architecture. It has an octa-core base with a max chip output of 1.8 GHz. The processor is coupled with a Mali-G52 GPU set. In real-world use, this processor isn’t really a very powerful one.
Yet we tried gaming on the device and ran PUBG, COD, and Asphalt 9 on it. The device was able to run all of them in moderate graphics settings. But the main problem was the heating issue. The device became hot after about 30 minutes of continued gaming.
The T610 is best suited for moderate daily usage. You can casually browse social media, watch videos and do the usual daily stuff as you’d do on your device without a hiccup. Anything that is processor intensive will cause the device to throttle.

Battery and Charge Time
The Walton Primo R10 comes equipped with a 4850 mAh battery. That’s a bit of an odd choice since most devices come with a 5000 mAh battery. The battery usually lasts around 6 to 8 hours with continued usage. However, one positive thing here is the 10W fast charger which is usually not present on devices at this price point.
Price of Walton Primo R10 in Bangladesh
The Walton Primo R10 is available in a 4/64 GB configuration. The official price of the device in Bangladesh is 12,999 BDT.
Final Words
Walton never really limits itself by releasing one device each year. Instead, devices come on an almost half-yearly basis with slight variations. While it might get confusing for the users to make the correct choice, it also provides different options and minor improvements in certain aspects.
Read More: Vivo Y01 Review: Is it a worthy entry level budget phone?
The Walton Primo R10 similarly saw a minor improvement in the design and camera department. While most other aspects remain the same as the previous iteration, it can still be a worthy choice for anyone looking for a budget device to suffice daily needs.

However, the features outlined above will help increase your productivity level and solve some pain points to improve your overall smartphone using experience.
US scientists set to announce fusion energy breakthrough
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was set to announce a “major scientific breakthrough” Tuesday in the decades-long quest to harness fusion, the energy that powers the sun and stars.
Researchers at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California for the first time produced more energy in a fusion reaction than was used to ignite it, something called net energy gain, according to one government official and one scientist familiar with the research. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the breakthrough ahead of the announcement.
Granholm was scheduled to appear alongside Livermore researchers at a morning event in Washington. The Department of Energy declined to give details ahead of time. The news was first reported by the Financial Times.

Proponents of fusion hope that it could one day produce nearly limitless, carbon-free energy, displacing fossil fuels and other traditional energy sources. Producing energy that powers homes and businesses from fusion is still decades away. But researchers said it was a significant step nonetheless.
“It’s almost like it’s a starting gun going off,” said Professor Dennis Whyte, director of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a leader in fusion research. “We should be pushing towards making fusion energy systems available to tackle climate change and energy security.”
Net energy gain has been an elusive goal because fusion happens at such high temperatures and pressures that it is incredibly difficult to control.
Fusion works by pressing hydrogen atoms into each other with such force that they combine into helium, releasing enormous amounts of energy and heat. Unlike other nuclear reactions, it doesn’t create radioactive waste.
Billions of dollars and decades of work have gone into fusion research that has produced exhilarating results — for fractions of a second. Previously, researchers at the National Ignition Facility, the division of Lawrence Livermore where the success took place, used 192 lasers and temperatures multiple times hotter than the center of the sun to create an extremely brief fusion reaction.
The lasers focus an enormous amount of heat on a small metal can. The result is a superheated plasma environment where fusion may occur.
Read: Top 10 Health and Medicine Breakthroughs of 2021
Riccardo Betti, a professor at the University of Rochester and expert in laser fusion, said an announcement that net energy had been gained in a fusion reaction would be significant. But he said there’s a long road ahead before the result generates sustainable electricity.
He likened the breakthrough to when humans first learned that refining oil into gasoline and igniting it could produce an explosion.
“You still don’t have the engine and you still don’t have the tires,” Betti said. “You can’t say that you have a car.”
The net energy gain achievement applied to the fusion reaction itself, not the total amount of power it took to operate the lasers and run the project. For fusion to be viable, it will need to produce significantly more power and for longer.
It is incredibly difficult to control the physics of stars. Whyte said it has been challenging to reach this point because the fuel has to be hotter than the center of the sun. The fuel does not want to stay hot -- it wants to leak out and get cold. Containing it is an incredible challenge, he said.
Net energy gain isn’t a huge surprise from the California lab because of progress it had already made, according to Jeremy Chittenden, a professor at Imperial College in London specializing in plasma physics.
“That doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a significant milestone,” he said.
It takes enormous resources and effort to advance fusion research. One approach turns hydrogen into plasma, an electrically charged gas, which is then controlled by humongous magnets. This method is being explored in France in a collaboration among 35 countries called the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor as well as by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a private company.
Last year the teams working on those projects in two continents announced significant advancements in the vital magnets needed for their work.
Musk's Twitter disbands its Trust and Safety advisory group
Elon Musk's Twitter has dissolved its Trust and Safety Council, the advisory group of around 100 independent civil, human rights and other organizations that the company formed in 2016 to address hate speech, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other problems on the platform.
The council had been scheduled to meet with Twitter representatives Monday night. But Twitter informed the group via email that it was disbanding it shortly before the meeting was to take place, according to multiple members.
The council members, who provided images of the email from Twitter to The Associated Press, spoke on the condition of anonymity due to fears of retaliation.
“Our work to make Twitter a safe, informative place will be moving faster and more aggressively than ever before and we will continue to welcome your ideas going forward about how to achieve this goal,” said the email, which was signed “Twitter.”
The volunteer group provided expertise and guidance on how Twitter could better combat hate, harassment and other harms but didn’t have any decision-making authority and didn’t review specific content disputes.

“Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council was a group of volunteers who over many years gave up their time when consulted by Twitter staff to offer advice on a wide range of online harms and safety issues," tweeted council member Alex Holmes. “At no point was it a governing body or decision making.”
Twitter, which is based in San Francisco, had confirmed the meeting with the council Thursday in an email in which it promised an “open conversation and Q&A” with Twitter staff, including the new head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin.
That came on the same day that three council members announced they were resigning in a public statement posted on Twitter that said that “contrary to claims by Elon Musk, the safety and wellbeing of Twitter’s users are on the decline.”
Those former council members soon became the target of online attacks after Musk amplified criticized of them and Twitter’s past leadership for allegedly not doing enough to stop child sexual exploitation on the platform.
“It is a crime that they refused to take action on child exploitation for years!” Musk tweeted.
A growing number of attacks on the council led to concerns from some remaining members who sent an email to Twitter on Monday demanding the company stop misrepresenting its role.
Those false accusations by Twitter leaders were “endangering current and former Council members,” the email said.

The Trust and Safety Council, in fact, had as one of its advisory groups one that focused on child exploitation. This included the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the Rati Foundation and YAKIN, or Youth Adult Survivors & Kin in Need.

The blue checkmark was originally given to companies, celebrities, government entities and journalists verified by the platform. After Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, he launched a service granting blue checks to anyone willing to pay $8 a month. But it was inundated by imposter accounts, including those impersonating Musk's businesses Tesla and SpaceX, so Twitter suspended the service days after its launch.
The relaunched service will cost $8 a month for web users and $11 a month for iPhone users. Twitter says subscribers will see fewer ads, be able to post longer videos and have their tweets featured more prominently.
