While conducting its continued drive against hajj agencies’ misdeeds, a team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) got surprised that how could Kazi Travels and Tours, a tax defaulting agency, manage the approval.
The team conducted its fifth drive in some travel agencies at Kazi Tower located in city’s Nayapaltan area on Thursday.
Besides, the ACC team also found that Kazi Air International located there has no list of their actual pilgrims. Though every agency is bound to send a total of at least 150 pilgrims each year, it said it has sent 75 pilgrims only.
The agency in question also has no documents of house rent and proof of other activities in Saudi Arabia, the ACC team informed UNB.
ACC said that it would take stern action against such agencies to check the corruption from the root after the final report prepared by the ACC team.
Regarding the operation, the ACC Director General of Enforcement Operations Mohammad Munir Chowdhury said, "The purpose of our continuous operation is to stand strongly against the syndicate and raise the awareness among the hajj pilgrims about the corruption.”
A 9-member ACC team, led by Deputy Director Sheikh Mohammad Fenfillah and assistant director Gulshan Anowar Prodhan conducted the drive as part of a continued operation against graft practices in the name of sending people to hajj.
ACC also conducted such drives earlier on July 2, 4, 9 and 15 in some of the hajj agencies in the Purana Paltan, Nayapaltan, Fakirapool of the city.
