The convict is Golam Mostafa, son of Mofizuddin of Sudkhira village. He was tried in absentia as he jumped bail.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, Golam Mostafa used to harass the girl on her way to and from school.
As the girl’s parents complained to Mostafa’s guardians, he got angered and abducted the girl from Sudkhira Bridge area on March 15, 2007 on her way to school.
He kept her in separate places and raped her. Later, the girl was rescued by police.
A case was filed with Singair Police Station on March 30, 2007 under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
After examining all the records and 12 witnesses, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Mohammad Ali Hossain handed down the verdict.
