They discussed about the setting up of the proposed Indian Ocean Technical and Vocational University in the country.
The proposed university was also discussed in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Leaders’ Summit held in Indonesia while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her desire to set up the university in Bangladesh.
Ahmad Al Karim requested the UGC Chairman to provide a detail concept paper and outline on the proposed university.
UGC Chairman said that “The proposed university would be a professional university. It will focus on skills development. Besides, it would be an international learning and training centre.”
He said “The proposed university would be a unique institution in the region. It will offer degree and diploma on specialized courses. Students from 22 member countries of IORA will be able to study in the university.”
Professors Dr. Dil Afroza Begum and Dr. Md Akhtar Hossain, Members of UGC; Dr. Md Khaled, Secretary, Md Kamal Hossain, Director, Public University Management Division, Dr. Md Fakhrul Islam, Director of Private University Division, Dr. Durga Rani Sarker, Additional Director, Planning and Development Division, Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Additional Director of IMCT Division and Md Shahin Siraj, Deputy Secretary (Administration Division) of UGC, among others, were present in the meeting.
