Dhaka, Feb 11 (UNB) – Four Jatiya Party MP candidates, nominated for contesting the election to the reserved seats of the 11th parliament, submitted their nomination forms to the Election Commission (EC) on Monday.
The four candidates together with Jatiya Party senior leaders went to the EC secretariat at noon and submitted their nomination papers to the returning officer.
The four JaPa candidates are party presidium members Masuda M Rashid Chowdhury, Salma Islam, party chairman’s advisers Prof Raushan Ara Mannan and Najma Akhter.
Jatiya Party cochairman GM Quader, secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga, presidium members Fakhrul Islam and Rezaul Islam Bhuiyan were, among others, present.
Talking to reporters, Ranga said their party will demonstrate in Parliament that huge opposition MPs are not needed to speak loudly in favour of people. “We’ll also prove that the role of the true opposition can be played by a small number of MPs.”
He said they will play the role of the opposition in a systematic and decent way instead of indulging in badmouthing in parliament.
On February 3, the Election Commission announced the election schedule for the reserved seats.
The 50 seats of parliament reserved for women are distributed among parties based on the number of their representation in Parliament.
According to the proportional representation in the House, Awami League AL will get 43 of the 50 reserved seats while Jatiya Party four and BNP and Workers Party one each.
Jatiya Party won 22 seats in December-30 national election.
